GUIDELINES

This is not a platonic exchange. However, non-sexual and pre-relationship content will certainly be allowed, as long as it follows the spirit of the exchange, as well as the request of your recipient. Polyamorous ships, other platonic friendships, and "swinger" pairings will also be allowed, as long as the focus is on Gumshoe and Edgeworth. It would be unreasonable to try to write rules taking account for all possibilities, or to try to direct what sort of works people request or create, so please use your best judgement!

More information about how to nominate characters in addition to GumWorth can be found on the nominations page.

RULES
1. Participants must be the age of majority in their country/territory to participate.
2. You must make at least 2 requests, the maximum is 10. You must make at least 1 offer, the maximum is 10.
3. Your gift must meet the stated minimums.
4. You must respect your recipient's DNWs, but DNWs must be added to the additional details box. DNWs may also be included in a letter for convenience, but unless they are also in the details box, they cannot be honored, as they could be changed in an outside letter, which would be unfair to a creator who has already begun working.
5. Additionally, DNWs must be worded in a neutral, and non-judgmental fashion. For example "no watersports" is a fine DNW, but "nothing disgusting or bad" is both not-specific enough to be enforceable, and judgmental. You cannot use your DNWs to box your creator into creating a very specific kind of work. You may, however, use this space to indicate if you have a preference for certain Top/Bottom or Dom/sub dynamics (e.g. DNW Bottom!Edgeworth).
6. Do not post anything about what you create for this exchange on public social media, or where your recipient may be able to see it, before creator reveals. Once creators have been revealed, you are welcome to share your work elsewhere.
7. Treating is enabled and very encouraged!
8. Please comment on any gift(s) you receive. There is no real minimum for how long these comments should be, but please try to give at least a single line.

Finally, and most importantly:

9. The policy of this exchange is to ship and let ship. You are welcome to request and nominate anything you like, as long as it is about GumWorth. However, if you are found to be harassing anyone involved over their kinks or ship preferences, you will be removed from the exchange and banned from participating in any future events run by the GumWorth Week team.

I was supposed to do creator reveals last night, but I fell asleep really early 😅

That's okay though, because the collection for 2023 is now fully revealed!

Thank you again for everyone who participated, and for everyone who didn't but looked through and kudos/commented 🥰 I was really nervous about running my first exchange, even with help from the good @/forkflinger, but I'm so happy everyone seemed to have a good time, and made so many lovely things!!!

If you haven't taken a look yet at the collection, please do! There's so many wonderful things in it to read and look at!

That's it for WHOOOP Exchange this year, but don't worry, we plan to run it again next year! And the next year... and the next year... (echoes)

Lots of love,

Fadó

hey hey everyone! we've got 1 day + 19 hours to go before works are due! i hope everyone has been well!

some important notes in these final two days:

  1. if you need an extension, please send us an email immediately! that's what the week between reveals is for, so please don't hesitate if you need more time!
  2. you can still take this week until works are revealed to edit!
  3. if you're finished with your work, this is a great time to consider treats! treats are bonus gifts which can be gifted to anyone in the exchange (not just your original assignment!) they should still respect DNWs, but they can be any length or medium.
  4. on that note, if you didn't have time to sign up this year, you're still welcome to submit treats for people!

that's it! i hope everyone has had fun working on their gifts! please make sure to direct any questions/concerns towards gumworthexchange@gmail.com!

Hello everyone! Sign-ups open tomorrow, so we thought we'd make a post about sign-up details, mostly answering questions that first time exchange participants might have.

How do sign-ups work?
Once sign-ups open, the only tags you will be able to use are from the tagset. Make sure to nominate as much as you can!
You can now use the tags you nominated to create requests and offers. Because this is a ship-centric exchange, you can request/offer only GumWorth, but you must also request 4 freeforms as a minimum per request and offer.

However, you must also offer to match to someone else's request in the collection. Your offers are what you are willing to create and you are free to put do not match notes, but you must be matchable to at least one other person. By matchable we mean that you must offer something that matches someone else's request. As an example, you could choose to offer anything, offer anything as long as it is for a certain pairing, or you could take a look through the requests and pick ships/tags to offer based on the requests you are interested in fulfilling.

If you are unmatchable, or do not have an offer that pairs with someone else's request, we will contact you through your AO3 email. Please keep tabs on your AO3 email once signups close. This is when we will be reaching out to unmatchable people. If we don't hear back from you by 11:59PM EST on the 24th, we will delete your sign up. So please keep in touch if you don't go out of your way to be matchable!

How does matching work? What are requirements for our assignments?

Matching is done based on one relationship and two additional tags. When you create your work for your recipient, it should include at least one relationship that they requested, and at least two of the additional tags. However, you can still do as many as relationships or additional tags as you like.

You also are not required to fulfill only the request or tags that you matched on. For example, you might have matched because you offered a relationship and tags that match your recipient's first request, but you might decide you are more inspired by their second request. As long as your work fulfills the same criteria, you are welcome to do any of their requests.

What do I put in the description? What's a letter?

The "description" category on sign-ups is your place to put any optional details you might have about your request, such as suggestions, ideas you had, or things you like. This is also where you should put any DNWs. If you do not put your DNWs in your sign-up, we cannot enforce them. You are not required to add any additional details or a letter. Additionally, if you would like to opt-in for treats, please mention it in your optional details.

A letter is an optional document that you post on another website, such as Tumblr, Dreamwidth, etc. These are good places to write more extensively about relationship dynamics you like, kinks, tropes, and anything else that might be helpful to your gifter.

Only DNWs and tags are enforceable
. Your gifter is under no obligation to use the details from your description or letter. However, most people will generally try to make something you will like, and may take inspiration from these things.

What are DNWs?
DNWs are exactly what they say on the tin: things you Do Not Want. Some examples of reasonable DNWs might include: kinks, background ships, or certain ship dynamics. However, you cannot use these to box your creator into creating a very specific kind of work. For example, if you created a request with the tag "Medieval AU", it would be reasonable to DNW "realistic medieval politics", but it would be unreasonable to DNW "any medieval period besides 12th century England". Obviously this can be a fine line, so feel free to contact a mod if you're worried about being too specific, or take a look at what other people are writing in their DNWs.

Deadlines?
You must be finished with your gift, either 750 words of fic or a clean sketch if you draw, by February 22nd 2023, 11:59 PM EST. You have a whole month to create something. If you are not done by then, or think you won't be done by then, please contact the mods immediately via email to discuss an extension (gumworthexchange@gmail.com).

Defaulting?
If you must default, please press the Default button in your AO3 assignment tab. You do not need to contact us or ask permission to default. Just do it as soon as you can so we can get a pinch hit for your recipient.

Treating?
Treating is when you create something for a person you were not assigned to. Maybe you were really inspired by their prompt but only saw it after signups closed, and you didn't match to them! You are free to write/draw for them too. Treats have no minimums, and can be art or fic, regardless of what the recipient chose in their sign-up, but should still respect DNWs.

How do I post a treat?
Simply post your work as you usually would, but put it in the gumworth_exchange_2023 collection. Be sure to spell your recipients name correctly. You can also click the "Post to Collection" button at the top of the collection page.

Please make sure that gifting is enabled on your AO3 account if you wish to receive treats, and make mention of it in your optional details.

Oh no! I forgot to include something in my sign-up!
Don't worry! As long as it's before sign-ups close, you can go back and edit your sign-up! If you plan on signing up, it's a good idea to get a rough sketch of your requests down (many people write "Details/Letter TBA). That way if sign-ups do close, and you forget the deadline, you've at least signed up with some tags! But if you have any DNWs or optional details you want to include, make sure to do them before the deadline!

Feel free to leave any further questions in the comments, or send us an email at gumworthexchange@gmail.com.

The tagset for WHOOOP: A GumWorth Exchange 2023 is now open for nominations! Nominations will remain open until January 14th, 11:59PM EST! That's a week from now!

You do not have to commit to signing up for GumWorth Exchange to nominate, so make sure to nominate even if you're just considering joining us!

Make sure to check the already approved tags before you nominate; it may already have been approved to the tagset! Until a tag gets approved, you can still go back and edit your nominations.

Explanation of how Tag Nominations work can be found here.

Another note: We will reject any relationship tags that don't have both Gumshoe and Edgeworth in them. This is just for consistency and clarity when it's time for sign-ups. So, if you would like to nominate Gumshoe/Edgeworth/Godot, you do not need to also nominate Edgeworth/Godot.

If you have any questions about formatting, please leave them in the comments or contact us via gumworthexchange@gmail.com.

How to nominate
In the tagset, click the button on the top of the page labeled 'Nominate'. This will take you to a form where you can fill in a single fandom slot, followed by 10 relationships and 20 freeforms. Because this is an exchange for GumWorth, your relationship nominations MUST include Gumshoe and Edgeworth, but they can also include other characters.

Please try to stick to the formatting guide below.

General nomination info / Formatting
You can nominate up to 10 relationship/characters and 20 freeforms. Please use & to indicate a platonic pairing, and / to indicate a romantic/sexual pairing. Some examples might include:

  • Dick Gumshoe/Miles Edgeworth & Kay Faraday
  • Dick Gumshoe/Miles Edgeworth/Lana Skye
  • Dick Gumshoe/Miles Edgeworth & Phoenix Wright/Godot
  • Dick Gumshoe/Miles Edgeworth/Larry Butz/Phoenix Wright

In your signup, you cannot DNW any person included in a relationship. For example, if you request Dick Gumshoe/Miles Edgeworth & Phoenix Wright/Godot, you cannot DNW Godot, and only receive a platonic piece with Phoenix. Please make sure you nominate any relationship you might be interested in receiving or creating for!

Please use full names for the characters when nominating. If a relationship tag becomes too long/unwieldy, mods will clean it up before the exchange starts.

Freeform tags

Nominated freeform tags can be any tropes, kinks or scenarios. They do not need to be canonized AO3 tags. They can include general ideas for AUs, or more specific concepts. However, we may combine some tags if they are too similar during cleanup. Some examples:

Alternate Universe - Soulmates
Alternate Universe - Prince!Gumshoe/Royal Tutor!Edgeworth
Scenario - Meeting the parents
Rope Bondage
Power Bottom Dick Gumshoe
Catboy Miles Edgeworth

Why nominate?
This exchange will be matched by AO3. AO3 needs a pool of set tags to work with in order to match one request to one offer. If we were to match the requests by hand, we would be able to tell which requests go with which offers even if the tags are spelled wrong or slightly different. A machine cannot do this. Therefore, this exchange needs a tagset so every request can pick from the same pool of tags, to make automated matching easier. Additionally, seeing nominated tags might inspire someone to request something they might not usually request!

Hi everyone! This is where we'll be answering questions asked via the Google Form!

(Side note; that's still here if you want to help provide input!)

Q&A

Will digital art be accepted?

Yes! Of course! In the suggested minimum requirements, I made reference to art needing to be on "unlined paper". This is a guideline for those who choose to do traditional! All traditional art will need to be scanned anyway, since this is an online exchange.
